Erinnerungskörper

the body as a memory keeper

opening: tuesday, march 19, 6-9pm @SomoS Berlin with contemporary dance performance by Tabea Antonacci & Marie Elise Hufnagel

SomoS presents Erinnerungskörper, a solo exhibition by canadian-based german visual artist Gabriela Hirt, who combines movement with collage and painting focusing on the legacy of colonialism.

Tabea Antonacci and Marie Elise Hufnagel explore how movement can interpret and interact with Hirt’s paintings and themes, as well as with the audience. Their deeply researched collaborative venture resulted in a gripping improvisational dance piece, translating complex emotions and histories into powerful movements that suggest that if trauma is embodied and passed along in the body, why wouldn’t resistance and resilience be as well?

With the performers adorned in body suits painted by Hirt, seemingly moving in and out of the large murals she created for the occasion, this collaboration dissolves the boundaries between dimensions. It dismantles the conventional barriers between artist, performer, and audience in an immersive call to engage with our own “embodied legacies.”

The exhibition and performance was supported by: Canada Council for the Arts
